4) Erythromycin:  It is macrolide antibiotic that has an antimicrobial similar spectrum to or slighter wider than penicillin  & often prescribed to those  who have allergy of penicillins.  It is produced by Streptomyces erythraeus.  It is active against Gram positive, some Gram negative, & pathogenic spirochaetes.  Its mode of action is similar to chloramphenicol .
