CONTROL OF MOS BY ANTIBIOTICS & OTHER CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC AGENTS..

ANTIBIOTICS & OTHER CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC AGENTS:

Antibiotics are substances produced by microorganisms or to similar substance( produce wholy or partially by chemical synthesis) which in low concentrations inhibit the growth of mos.

Sources of Antibiotics:

  1. Microorganisms
  •  Bacitracin, & Polymyxins  are obtained from Bacillus spp.
  • Streptomycin, Tetracycline etc are produced from Streptomyces spp.
  • Penicillin, Cephalosporins are produced by Penicillium spp, Acremonium spp.
2. Synthesis:  Chloramphenicol is now usually produced by synthetic process.
3. Semi-synthesis:  It means a part of molecule is produced by fermentation process using appropriate microorganisms &  the product is modified by chemical process. Many Penicillin & Cephalosporins are produced by this way.
