CONTROL OF MOS BY ANTIBIOTICS & OTHER CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC AGENTS..
ANTIBIOTICS & OTHER CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC AGENTS:
Antibiotics are substances produced by microorganisms or to similar substance( produce wholy or partially by chemical synthesis) which in low concentrations inhibit the growth of mos.
Sources of Antibiotics:
Antibiotics are substances produced by microorganisms or to similar substance( produce wholy or partially by chemical synthesis) which in low concentrations inhibit the growth of mos.
Sources of Antibiotics:
- Microorganisms:
- Bacitracin, & Polymyxins are obtained from Bacillus spp.
- Streptomycin, Tetracycline etc are produced from Streptomyces spp.
- Penicillin, Cephalosporins are produced by Penicillium spp, Acremonium spp.
3. Semi-synthesis: It means a part of molecule is produced by fermentation process using appropriate microorganisms & the product is modified by chemical process. Many Penicillin & Cephalosporins are produced by this way.
- Inhibition of cell wall Synthesis(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7596307)
- Damage to cytoplasmic membrane.
- Inhibition of nucleic acid & protein synthesis.
- Inhibition of Enzyme system .
